Our third Young Treasurers event was a tremendous success!

To double our attendance since the first event, have a sell-out registration and a waiting list, is a testament to the unique appeal of our Young Treasurer events.

Thanks to our fantastic speakers on the night: Alan Bluett (The Panel), Deborah Hamilton (Bank of Ireland Corporate and Markets), Enda Mahony (DCC plc), Dara Kavanagh (EY) and Aidan Conheady (Publicis Groupe).

Guest lectures from academic, financial services and corporate treasury sector shared their expertise on various Treasury topics, including

    • The role of Treasury
    • Risk management strategies
    • Capital raising and optimal capital structures
    • Treasury systems, operations and data analytics.

Many thanks to our speakers Sean Grace (Securitas - Group Treasurer), Patrick Denny (J.P. Morgan - Head of Corporate Rates UK & Ireland, Ronan McCabe (Trinity College – Adjunct Lecturer Investments & Sustainability), and Ronan Clifford (Honeywell - Senior Director Treasury - EMEA Treasury Lead) for a lively and insightful session.

After 3 years, it was great to be able to get together at the IACT - Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers Gala Dinner in the Shelbourne Hotel. Lovely to see old and new faces across members, patrons and other professional bodies. Excellent entertainment from Mario Rosenstock and our MC John Gilsenan. Looking forward to next year already.

The IACT saw another successful night run in the IFSC on Tuesday, as part of the GT 5k Run series where our 14 teams of 4 raced amongst a few thousand others from Dublin’s business community.  It was great to be able to get back out and run and socialise, after all the interruptions Covid brought.

There were lots of familiar faces, and a few new ones(!) as the rain held off to give perfect conditions for the fast and flat course along both sides of the river Liffey.

As usual, the ‘Afters’ are almost as important as the run, with everyone adjourning to the Hilton Garden hotel for refreshments and a catch up over some food, all the better to discuss the night’s activities.

The IACT had prizes for the ‘race within a race’ where all teams competed for trophies and prizes with AIG winning the Men's category and DCC the Mixed race. Congratulations are extended too, to Avril Barry of DCC as fastest lady in 24.17 and Segei Hee of AIG who had a very quick time of 17.00 as the fastest man.

Bastille Day, 14th July, saw the return of the sunshine for the IACT Race Night at Leopardstown where almost 30 members and guests enjoyed a full evening's racing, with a panoramic view of the final straight, from the comfort of the glass walled Pavilion.

Over a 3 course dinner and evening drinks, the eager punters pored over the race card and along with insider knowledge gleaned from the resident tipster, or any other info (perhaps the French name of their favoured nag?) that took their fancy, bets were placed and fortunes made. Well, it is all relative, but the table that got on a lucky 20-1 bet in the last race certainly weren’t complaining ! The Pavilion provided easy access to the racetrack and the bookies outside for those who wanted, while the Tote betting inside provided for a more relaxed experience.

The festivities concluded with the now customary post-race concert, with the Liberties' own songstress Imelda May belting out the hits to the crowd of over 5,000. The balmy summer evening contributed greatly to the atmosphere where the crowd swayed to the music and over a glass or two, discussed their winners and their also-rans.

The treasurer's maxim that 'past performance is not indicative of future results' may apply to the some of the horses running, but certainly not to the evening itself. We look forward to another successful running of the IACT Race Night next year. Who knows, we might see you there...?
