As part of our social calendar, we would like to invite you to join us at a screening of "Bombshell" on Wednesday, January 22nd in the Irish Film Institute (6pm sharp) in Temple Bar. This will be followed by refreshments in the IFI café bar.

A challenging film looking at the changing social and workplace mores in the recent high profile harassment case based in the Fox News tv station, during the 2016 US Presidential election.

As noted by the IFI's Kevin Coyne: "As founding CEO and chairman of Fox News, Roger Ailes was one of the most powerful and influential men in American conservative media. His career was brought to an ignominious end in 2016 following multiple accounts of his sexual harassment of women across decades.

When anchor Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman - an Oscar winner for The Hours) files a lawsuit against Ailes (John Lithgow) claiming that she had been fired for refusing his advances, it divides Fox staff into camps depending on whether they believe her.

Although new staff member Kayla Pospisil (Margot Robbie) has recently had it made clear to her what she needs to do in order to advance her career, she is reluctant to speak out.

Meanwhile, fellow anchor Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) stays neutral, her high profile making her stance more noticeable. Told with a light touch, this is an engaging and insightful study of workplace dynamics."

This thought provoking film has garnered 3 Oscar nominations including Best Actress (Charlize Theron - a previous winner for Monster) and Best Supporting Actress (Margot Robbie), both of whom also won Golden Globes for their performances.  It is written by Charles Randolph (an Oscar winner for The Big Short).
